Floating
A Floating ad has an element that travels across the page, drawing the user's attention to the related in-page ad unit. Once the animation is complete, the ad remains indefinitely on the page. The best part? The floating element grabs the user's attention but doesn't annoy them by blocking their ability to navigate the page. You can also add an expandable banner to the ad unit (to appear at the completion of the floating element) at no additional charge.

Must be built by an approved Rich Media vendor.

200x200 | 40,000 square pixels
FILE SIZE:
Initial flash = 40k | Total file size = 100k
ANIMATION/LOOPING:
8 seconds max

The floating element MUST:
  1. take the shape of the object it represents. No square shapes.
  2. not cover Yahoo! logo at any given time
  3. not pause over another ad, co branded logo or primary interaction element (search boxes or primary navigation bars)
  4. "fly" across the page, pausing no more than one second over content
  5. be linked to an in-page banner. It must fly out of or into the in-page unit.
AUDIO:
Allowed.
Audio on the floating element MUST:
  1. be initiated by click only
  2. end simultaneously end or before the ad finishes
  3. be encoded at a minimum volume of -12b
CLOSE BUTTON RESTRICTIONS:
The floating element must contain a static, persistent and functional "close" button to allow users to close the floating portion of the ad.
FREQUENCY CAP RESTRICTIONS:
The floating element will be frequency capped at 1 per user per 24 hours.

AUDIO:
On click OR mouse-over. If on mouse-over, there MUST be a 1 second delay. The audio MUST stop when the banner is moused-off.

Length: 30 seconds maximum on audio served in conjunction with a video stream. Audio served independent of a video stream may be 15 or 30 seconds.
FREQUENCY CAP RESTRICTIONS:
None. The landing unit will remain on the page indefinitely until page reload.
HOT SPOT RESTRICTIONS:
Hot spot should be no more than 25% of the entire ad unit.
BORDER RESTRICTIONS:
Ads without a border MUST have a high contrast background color that does not mimic the color of the page it serves on.
DATA COLLECTION:
If you wish to collect personal information within advertisements, those ad units will need to:
  1. Clearly identify your organization.
  2. Provide a direct link to your privacy policy, adjacent to the submit button.
  3. Clearly identify the purpose for collecting the information.
Additional disclosure may be required, depending on the type of advertisement. Please see your advertising representative for more information on required notices. Yahoo! will also label all such ad units with "ADVERTISEMENT".
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
Ads must conform to specifications outlined herein. Elements not meeting specifications will be returned for revision, which may delay the launch date.

Rich media ads must be submitted 5 business days prior to launch to enable thorough testing. Contact your Sales Representative for additional details. Creative submissions should include the following:
  • Advertiser name
  • Yahoo! Insertion Order number
  • Detailed trafficking instructions
  • Creative files
  • Alternate text (if applicable)
  • Linking URL
  • 3rd party tags (if applicable)
3rd party tags must be live at the time of submission to enable thorough testing before launch. For Flash ads, an alternate image conforming to the designated gif/jpg specifications must be provided for use in the event that the user's browser does not support Flash 6.0 and above.
YAHOO ADVERTISEMENT POLICY:
Advertisements cannot mislead the user. For example, they may not mimic or resemble Windows/Mac/Unix dialogue boxes, error messages, or the like.
  • Advertisements cannot resemble Yahoo! content. Advertisement must have a border.
  • Advertisements cannot contain graphics that simulate interactivity (i.e., drop down menus, search boxes, etc.) without that functionality actually existing. NO fake or simulated HTML interactivity.
  • Advertisements cannot mimic news headlines in design, tone, 3rd person sentence structure, or topic.
  • All advertisements will be reviewed by Yahoo! and are subject to approval by Yahoo! before placement on the site.
  • Cookies may not be set on the Yahoo! network except by parties with a third party ad serving agreement.
  • Yahoo! reserves the right to preserve the user experience of its sites, and reserves the right to remove any advertisement which is deemed annoying and/or harmful to our users at any time.
  • The sponsor of any advertising message appearing on the U.S. Properties is clearly identified either on the ad itself or, if the ad is smaller than an 88x31 button, on the resulting first level jump page.
